Betsy's Farm is located in Canton North Carolina. Our farm was established in Warner, New Hampshire, in 2005. A friend and neighbor named Betsy donated her field for our first market gardens. Eventually we passed that field along to another farming friend--but we kept the name as a gift.
In our first season we grew a wide selection of certified organic vegetables, selling them at local markets and through a multi-farm all-organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program (Kearsarge Mountain CSA) that we co-founded. In 2007 we moved to Maine and spent several seasons as organic growers there. While in Maine we ran our own small CSA, and sold to local independent grocers. We also joined several other farms in bringing local organic produce to the region's hospitals--our gardens are in the cover photo in this article about it.
In summer 2011 we returned to Amy's home area of western North Carolina, where her family still lives, to set roots. Getting our farm established in the Bethel area of Canton, in the Pigeon River Valley has taken a few years, but finally in 2016 we are back in business, selling fresh produce to area natural food stores and the Asheville City Market. We have been successfully growing winter hardy greens and turnips throughout the fall and winter months, currently selling to Roots & Fruits Market in Black Mountain and at the Asheville Winter Market, Sponsored by ASAP at the Masonic Temple in Asheville.
Wherever we are, we seek to grow great food in a way that sustains our family, our business, our community, and the natural environment upon which we all depend. Our success with the winter farming has us well prepared for an early spring growing season. Our goal is to provide seasonal produce 12 months a year and we look forward to meeting you at a farmers market, at the farm or by joining out Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program.
